Earth seems to execute her most abstract paintings in the great deserts of our world. This image shows a portion of the Sahara desert in southwestern Algeria where the desert sands of the Grand Erg Occidental meet higher plateaus. The erosion channels in this image are fossils dating back to just after the last ice age when this region had a wetter climate.

The area covered by this image is approximately 72x36 miles.
