Exuma Sound

This image contains the southern half of Eleuthera Island, the Exuma Cays, and Green Cay. The underwater formations west of Eleuthera date from the Pleistocene when the ocean level was much lower than it is today. Sand dunes which formed during the ice ages solidified, some of which remained above sea-level when the glaciers melted and became islands or cays, but others, such as the ones visible here, eroded and then were covered by the rising ocean waters.

The area covered by this image is approximately 75x97 miles.

Other Bahamas Islands prints available: Spiral, Grand Bahama, Long Island, Great Exuma, Crooked & Acklins Island, Andros Island, Abacos and Berry Islands.
