About ABOV
The ABOV gallery features works of art crafted from remote sensing satellite data. These datasets are the result of Earth observation over the past three decades and when processed artistically introduce a rather contemporary and often abstract view of the Earth's surface. Often mistaken as oil paintings and sometimes confused as photography, the ABOV works of art are something different all together. ABOV- “Art Beyond Our Vision” speaks about the science that becomes the basis for how the ABOV artists derive color in their images. We're art and science - just a lot higher up.
Josh Schwartz founded ABOV, Inc. in 2002 to explore the artistic nature of geospatial data and technology. ABOV is the first of it's kind: A geospatial company with a gallery component combining high resolution satellite data and artwork. From the perspective of 400 miles above the Earth, the ABOV artists bring height and elevation to contemporary and abstract art unlike anything else currently being produced. Larry Ammann's “The Art of Remote Sensing” and Stuart Black's “Signatures of Earth” and “Shooting the Past” series are the first comprehensive collections of satellite imagery artwork to be shown in a gallery environment exclusively dedicated to this artform.
ABOV seeks out creative artists with the technical background to work with satellite imagery and the artistic skills to create original and unique artwork. ABOV is the collective home for this artform, its artists and those that appreciate this style of artwork.
